Since 2010, I’ve photographed the budding tulips across from the Tribune Tower. A quick trip across the street to Walgreens and I get the pleasant surprise of seeing the tulips. Or sometimes I would discover the budding flowers in the middle of busy Michigan Avenue while walking to work in the morning. Such things are the little wonderful things of working in the Tribune Tower for 18 years.
In May this year, Tronc and Tribune Content Agency move away from the historic Tribune Tower, down the street to the Prudential Building.
Thankfully, the Prudential is also on Michigan Avenue. So next year my annual tradition of photographing the Michigan Avenue tulips will continue by the Prudential Building. Kiddy-corner across the street sits the wonderful Chicago Cultural Center, which will make for a great background. While the move away from Tribune Tower is bittersweet, I’m also looking forward to the next chapter of these budding tulip series.
Doing the math, the first ten years I worked here, I didn’t photograph the tulips (2000-2009).
Any idea when they will be in full bloom out of town relatives would like to visit to see them
Harold, the first tulips have started to blossom on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. I wrote a blog post about it with some photos: https://www.spudart.org/blog/first-tulip-blossoms-chicago-spring-2018/
