First Geocities. Eight years later MySpace. What will come next? I’m guessing around 2012 we’ll have another attack of extremely poor design online.
But you still have to hand it to Geocities and MySpace. Despite their total ignorance of design, they did innovate new ways to publish on the web. Come 2012, we’ll have another wave of web publishing innovation. Perhaps holograms or something. And they’ll be continuous animation holograms of construction workers digging and sparkles. Lots and lots of sparkles. Holographic sparkles. I can’t wait.
I can’t believe my first site was on Geocities, wow, what did I know? Not much obviously! I also abandoned MySpace (after the 3rd or 4th time) because it was so fugly and with every new thing they added the design just go worse and worse.
My first site was on AOL, complete with construction horses. Great times. Then I moved over to Geocities for awhile.
Geocities didn’t have construction horses. Instead I had to go trolling across the internet to find them and +gulp+ pay for some really badly animated version of construction horses.
