Todd Webb’s Snowflake Mountain (artwork I own)

%%title%%

I started a new pinboard of artwork I own. One of the first things I pinned on this board is a wonderful piece by Todd Webb (one of my top five favorite artists from 2010). Todd writes and draws one of the world’s most wonderful comics. I HIGHLY recommend one of his books, “Casual Poet: the cartoon journals of todd webb from november 2003 to may 2005.”

These two quotes totally encapsulate his work to a tee:

“Todd Webb’s comics are less about chronicling life’s events than expressing an unabashed love of living, good medicine for anyone in a bit of a funk.”
— Jeffrey Brown, author of ‘Clumsy’ and ‘Little Things’

“Todd Webb’s cartoons are not only a breath of fresh air, but a ray of hope.”
— Jimmy Gownley, author of ‘Amelia Rules!’

When I saw he was selling this drawing on his etsy, I totally jumped at buying it. I wrote the following message to Todd when I purchased “Snowflake Mountain” from him on etsy. (note, I believe he’s a Christian, because in a couple of his comics he refers to going to church, so hence the Scripture references in the note)

Wooo! I’m a big fan of your Casual Poet book. (this coming from a guy who works for a comics syndicate).

This snowflake mountain drawing reminds me of a few verses from Psalms:

Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars! … Let them praise the name of the Lord , for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven. (Psa 148:9, 13 ESV)

Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together before the Lord , for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. (Psa 98:8-9 ESV)

The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy, the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy. (Psa 65:12-13 ESV)
