Paper coins cost more than pennies

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up, so at school, the first- and second-graders will start building their leprechaun traps! We get to bring to school boxes, cardboard tubes, and whatever items would make a good leprechaun trap.

Gold coins would make for good bait in a leprechaun trap. I pulled out some of the leftover paper from Sarah’s and my wedding. I pulled out one gold metallic sheet. And one bronze metallic sheet. Both from Paper Source. Using my hole punch, I got 64 circles from each sheet of paper.

A high-angle shot of a crafting project on a light-colored textured surface. A white and pink circle paper punch sits next to a sheet of metallic gold paper that has been efficiently punched with a precise grid of 64 circular holes. In the foreground, a messy pile of the resulting small gold circles is scattered, showing the contrast between the organized "skeleton" of the paper and the loose pile of confetti.

I seem to recall that each sheet of paper roughly costs about $1. So getting 64 circles from one sheet… I could have just used pennies, and we could have 100 real pennies instead! (Ah, well, it’s more fun to use the play coins. Easier to glue. The kids can draw on them.)
