What’s your favorite Crayola color?

Chicagoland design agency Rule 29 asks, What’s your favorite Crayola color? So far the designers have answered: Red, Hot Magenta, Salmon, Red-Orange, GoldenRod, Raw Umber, Spring Green, Cerulean Blue (three votes), Midnight Blue.

All designers and nobody has said BLACK? WHAT? As a designer, I’m setting the record straight and putting black out there as my favorite crayon color. For real. As a kid I loved making thick black lines. Bold drawings made with the deepest darkest greatest Crayola color ever. BLACK.

Head on over to Rule 29’s blog post and let ’em know what your favorite color is. (Or if you feel weird talking with strangers, you can just drop your fav in the comments on spudart.org.)

When I was in kindergarten I used to outline all of the coloring I did in black. I also used to press really hard with the crayons to get a really saturated color. I got some of the other kids to do it too. The teacher said she thought our colorings looked like stained glass. So we hung them in the window. The newsprint paper didn’t allow the sun to shine through but the colorings with the saturated colors outlined in black looked cool. I still look back and think they did. Right now my favorite Crayola color is Yellow-Green

Flesh. I still have several around from old boxes of 64. Sometimes the old things were better. For instance has anyone seen the new Uno cards? They’ve changed the look of the cards so they can sell them in multi-language markets. We hadn’t played in years and couldn’t find the old cards, so we bought a new package. It made the game less than fun.
