As Antartica experiences its summer season, Chicago gets hit with winter. Often it gets super cold in Chicago, and it makes me wonder if we ever get colder temperatures than Antartica. And I’m talking South Pole, Antartica.
On January 18, 2008, Chicago was just 14 degrees warmer than the South Pole at 3:50am.

South Pole: -5.8°
Difference: Chicago warmer by 14 degrees
January 19, 2008, 6:50am

And if you think the recent cold temperatures we’ve had so far in February might get close… So far the coldest temperature in February for Chicago is 3 degrees. At the South Pole, the warmest temperature for February is -29. So It looks like Antartica is losing its summer already and temperatures are totally dropping out of our reach in Chicago.
Hmm, maybe our “feels like”/wind chill temperature gets colder than the actual South Pole temperature?
Wow. I think if it’s this cold again I should call in to work and say “You know, it’s only 14 degrees warmer than the south pole. That’s reason enough to stay home. “
I love it when it gets cold here. There’s no place like chicago to snuggle up and eat pizza and warm your body with beer.
does it snow a lot in antartica?
